Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with Julian Draxler for some time. The 20 year old is yet another gifted technician to come from Germany in recent years, along with the likes of Gotze, Reus, Schurrle, and so many others. But, with Manchester United's reputed interest seemingly at an end with the purchase of Juan Mata, the German blogosphere seems to believe that Arsenal's hierarchy have countenanced the funds to meet the buy-out clause of one of the country's top prospects.
On the surface, it's hard to see where Draxler fits in at Arsenal, or how his signing represents a responsible use of Arsenal's budget. While the player's potential is in little doubt, the Emirates is positively awash with creative central midfield players that Wenger already struggles to cram into the side. With Ozil, Carzola, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky and Oxlade-Chamberlain all potential candidates for that position, his path to the first team is uncertain. There has been speculation that Wenger will seek to cultivate Draxler as a centre-forward, if so, the transfer appears a very expensive gamble.
