Radamel Falcao is out of the World Cup

Colombia's talismanic  striker, Radamel Falcao, will miss the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer after a scan confirmed he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

The World Cup will be without yet another world-class striker with the news that Monaco's Radamel Falcao will need surgery on his knee following an injury sustained in his side's victory over fourth division Monts Or Azergues in the French cup. His manager, former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, was particularly critical of the physical approach employed by their lower league rivals, and the officials reluctance to punish what he perceived as strong-arm tactics.
The striker will be much missed by Colombia in Brazil this summer, after many pundits had fancied them to cause some upsets against the more traditionally successful nations. Falcao is yet another loss for the tournament after the enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Sweden failed to qualify.
